resistance, food sovereignty & climate justice

12 NOVEMBER 2011, KINGHORN, FIFE, SCOTLAND

How the does the local food movement relate to wider global issues? With representatives from Via Campesina and food projects from across Europe
we’ll be exploring the local food movement in the global context. How does eating local relate to famine, trade, aid and land use? How do you cater for the
Puerta del Sol? How do you resist ghost acres, land grabs and hedge funds? Did the rising price of food stoke the Arab Spring? How does what we eat relate
to climate justice?

The day will explore these themes, bringing together inspiring innovators to discuss future collaborative action.

The one day conference will incorporate the AGM of the Fife Diet, as well as feature practical cookery workshops and activities for kids.

Organised in colaboration with IACD, Via Campesina and World Development Movement Scotland.

REGISTER NOW
To help with planning we need to know who's coming! The whole event (including lunch and refreshments) is free and for this reason booking is absolutely essential.

If you are just coming for the AGM (9.30 - 10.30am) you can simply arrive on the day. However, if you are coming to the conference you need to book your place. We will be unable to accept people for the conference on the day if they have not reserved a space.

CHILDCARE
We will have a supervised play and activity area for children age 3 and over - Kids Club. Places are FREE but STRICTLY LIMITED and so you must book a place in advance. The sessions will coincide with the scheduled events. There will be no supervised childcare over the lunch time & children will return to parents during this and other breaks in the programme. Fife Diet

The Fife Diet is a network of people passionate about the connections between food, culture and ecology, and the challenge of creating a viable food system.

Between October 2007 and October 2008 the Fife Diet asked people to sign-up to eating food from the region of Fife, for a year, monitor their progress and share their experience.

The project has developed from a voluntary network into a funded body and in its development has changed from a small amount of people dedicated to eating ‘from Fife’ for a year, to a much larger network of people trying to re-localise more generally and to explore what sustainable food might be.
